Description
Educational leadership in Philippine higher education stands at the forefront of national efforts to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As the country confronts persistent challenges in poverty, inequality, climate vulnerability, and access to quality education, higher education institutions (HEIs) are increasingly seen as key enablers of sustainable development. The United Nations' 2030 Agenda emphasizes education's transformative role in achieving all 17 SDGs (United Nations, 2015). In the Philippines, educational leaders, including university presidents, chancellors, deans, and department heads, must navigate complex policy landscapes while ensuring that their institutions contribute to national development goals. This essay discusses how educational leadership in Philippine HEIs can drive SDG implementation, the challenges these leaders face, and their impact on institutional and societal transformation, with particular emphasis on the policy frameworks developed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
