Description

The scoping review systematically reviewed 10 studies on environmental literacy among Filipino students at various educational levels. Most studies were conducted in the Philippines and utilized predominantly quantitative designs, with fewer qualitative and mixed-method approaches. Findings indicated that students generally possess moderate environmental knowledge, strong pro-environmental attitudes, and fair-to-moderate environmental practices, highlighting a persistent gap between awareness and actual behavior. School-based and community-based interventions, including project-based activities, experiential learning, and curriculum integration, were shown to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices, particularly when contextualized and participatory approaches were employed. Factors influencing environmental literacy included gender, age, socioeconomic status, parental education, teacher competence, and school resources. The review underscores the need for strengthened environmental education frameworks that holistically integrate knowledge, values, and behavioral engagement to cultivate responsible environmental stewards.
