Description

Before sunrise, Aling Nena was already arranging fresh fish inside two woven baskets she had made herself while her husband, Mang Ben, prepared the remaining catch for drying. The smell of sardines lingered in their small backyard, clinging to their worn clothes no matter how many times they washed them. By the time the sun had fully risen, Mang Ben's hands and body were already covered with fish scales, while Aling Nena had begun her daily walk from one neighborhood to another, hoping to sell all their produce and bring home enough rice before evening.
