When you get down to it, chemistry is the invisible string tying all of the different levels of reality with one another, from molecules to living organisms to the universe. This essay suggests that the importance of chemistry stems from its significance at three specific levels: organic chemistry as the foundation of life, the explanations of everyday natural phenomena and facts, and the material and human connections revealed through chemistry.
