Abstract
Disasters, as defined by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR, 2020), are major disruptions to social and community functioning caused by hazardous events. These disruptions may lead to significant human, material, economic, and environmental impacts, depending heavily on a community’s exposure, vulnerability, and adaptive capacity. The tourism industry, a crucial pillar of the global economy, is particularly vulnerable to such catastrophic risks (World Bank, 2020). Recognizing this vulnerability, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) has established a priority for national and local authorities to integrate disaster risk management (DRM) approaches within the tourism sector, emphasizing tourism's dependence on a stable and secure environment (United Nations World Tourism Organization [UNWTO], 2015).
