Abstract
This study was conducted in public and private secondary schools of the Division of Baguio City and Benguet. The respondents were the junior and senior high school athletes. This study is descriptive in design. It described the status and effectiveness of sports development in secondary schools of Baguio City and Benguet. It also tested the corresponding hypothesis derived from the issues resolved in this study. The constructed questionnaires were the primary data-collection tool for this study. A t-test was used to determine whether there is a significant difference in perceptions between athletes from Baguio and those from Benguet. The following are the findings of this study: The athletes from Benguet and Baguio City perceived that the objectives of the sports development program were largely achieved. There is no significant difference between the perceptions of athletes from Benguet and those from Baguio City regarding the level of attainment of the objectives of the implementation of sports development. The athletes from Benguet and Baguio City perceived the availability of facilities and equipment in the implementation of sports development as available. There is no significant difference in the perceptions of athletes from Benguet and Baguio City regarding the availability of facilities and equipment for sports development. The athletes from Benguet and Baguio perceived that the method used to evaluate their performance in implementing sports development was more effective. There is no significant difference in the perceptions of athletes from Benguet and Baguio City regarding the effectiveness of the methods used to evaluate their performance in implementing sports development. The athletes from Benguet and Baguio City perceived that the problems encountered in implementing sports development were serious. There is no significant difference between the perceptions of athletes from Benguet and those from Baguio City regarding the degree of seriousness of problems encountered in implementing sports development. The athletes from Benguet and Baguio City perceived that the activities and measures to improve the implementation of sports development were widely accepted. There are significant differences between the perceptions of athletes from Benguet and Baguio City on the degree of acceptance of the activities and measures to improve the implementation of sports development. The following are the conclusion of the study: The objectives of sports development from Baguio City and Benguet were much attained; The facilities and equipment in sports development from Baguio City and Benguet were available; The Methods used by the coaches to evaluate the performance of the athletes in sports development were much effective; The athletes encountered serious problems; and the athletes much accepted the activities and measures to improve the sports development. The following are the recommendations of the study: The coaches, trainers and teachers should continue attaining the objectives of the implementation of sports development; Administrators, coaches, trainers, and teachers should do remedial measures on the facilities and equipment that were identified as not available; The coaches, trainers, and teachers should continue using the methods identified as much effective; The administrators, coaches, trainers and teachers should give immediate solutions to the problems; and The much accepted measures to improve the implementation of sports development should be adopted and implemented and be given priority as soon as possible.
