Description

This essay examines persistent structural challenges in the contemporary Philippines across three dimensions: corruption and governance failure, educational inequality, and civic disengagement. Drawing on recent scholarship by Garrido (2025), Buendia (2023), and Ramirez Yee (2024), the analysis argues that these challenges are deeply rooted in historical institutional patterns and require systemic, rather than cosmetic, reform. The essay concludes that genuine national progress demands honest leadership, equitable access to education, and an actively engaged citizenry.
