Description A feminist and postcolonial literary analysis is advanced of Merlinda Bobis’s Banana Heart Summer, a coming-of-age novel set in a rural Philippine community during the 1960s. Beyond the Colonized “Heart”, the analysis approaches poverty, hunger, and gendered labor not as lived realities but as narrative constructs shaped through language, symbolism, and point of view. Central to the discussion is food as metaphor, specifically Filipino cuisine as a charged cultural site where meanings of identity, deprivation, care, and struggle are produced and contested. Through close textual analysis, hunger is examined not only as material absence but also as an affective and ideological condition inflected by colonial histories and patriarchal social arrangements. Drawing on feminist and postcolonial frameworks, the study situates these representations within the novel’s characterization, domestic spaces, conflicts, and child-centered perspective, foregrounding how female figures negotiate silence, endurance, and limited agency through everyday acts of feeding and nurturing. Formalist attention to satire and defamiliarization reveals how ordinary culinary practices are rendered strange, exposing the normalization of inequality and social hierarchy. Semiotic analysis further demonstrates how food imagery functions ambivalently as a mechanism of survival and a potential site of resistance, raising questions about whether women’s voices within these spaces are amplified or constrained. By narrowing its focus to metaphor and representation, this article argues that Banana Heart Summer transforms food from a narrative backdrop into a critical device through which gendered struggle, colonial residue, and identity formation are articulated, thereby inviting reflection on how power, care, and resistance are encoded in the most intimate practices of everyday life.

Lakbay-Diwa Publishing. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19997923 Read File Author(s) Ecleo et al. Description The Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA), Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit, and charitable institution established by its founder, Divine Master Ruben Edera Ecleo Sr. These abstract traces the organization's evolution from its spiritual origins in the 1950s to its emergence as a national movement formally incorporated on October 19, 1965. Founded on the pillars of benevolence, healing, and service, PBMA's history is a testament to the integration of divine mission with civil governance. The narrative begins with the "Divine Master's" itinerant healing ministry, shaped by his spiritual mastery of the 4-corners spiritual division and profound sacrifices. From humble beginnings in Barangay Cab-ilan, the mission transitioned into a structured polity with the formation of the First Thirteen and First Twenty-Four missioners. Central to the Association's identity is its moral architecture, defined by six core virtues: Honesty, Sincerity, and Loyalty (regulating external behavior) and Self-discipline, Self-sacrifice, and Self-reliance (guiding internal character). Following legal incorporation under SEC Registration No. 0000028042, PBMA expanded its holistic mission by establishing sectoral leagues for youth, women, and professionals, alongside cooperatives and foundations to uplift the socio-economic status of its members. The leadership era of Master Ruben B. Ecleo Jr. (1987–2021) was further guided by the new world spiritual division with strong belief in association fate, moral values, character and modernizing these operations, professionalizing missionary work while navigating organizational transitions. Despite internal dissent and splinter groups arising during leadership transitions, the Association's faithful core successfully restored institutional order through special elections in 2022, reaffirming the supremacy of the Association's Charter and the Revised Corporation Code of the Philippines. As PBMA marks its 60th Foundation Anniversary (1965–2025), it stands as a resilient civic and spiritual entity. The Association continues to fulfill its original mandate: promoting international peace, fostering universal brotherhood, and uplifting the human condition through selfless service under the third-generation leadership of current President Yngwie Hero Bacolod Ecleo. Rooted in the legacy of the Divine Master, PBMA remains a light of truth and benevolence, proving that faith, when harmonized with disciplined governance, serves as a powerful catalyst for spiritually-balanced, moral and social transformation.

ACADEMIC FRONTIERS Multidisciplinary e-Publication, 2(3), 51–56. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19127047 Read File Author(s) Ampa, Norlainy M. Abstract This study is entitled: The learning process amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the problems encountered by selected parents in Sultan Conding Elementary School in Marawi City: Its Implication. The emergence of COVID-19 has sparked a worldwide health emergency, fundamentally altering our perspectives on global health and everyday life. The COVID-19 pandemic has upended daily life, profoundly affecting education, especially for elementary school children. This study examines the parental challenges that affect the learning of elementary students during the pandemic and explores their broader implications. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational survey method, socio-demographic profiles, the pandemic's learning impact, specific parental difficulties, and their implications were analyzed. The researcher used a Quantitative Research Approach with an Ex-Post Facto Research design. Furthermore, this research used frequency counts, percentage distributions, weighted means, chi-square tests, and standard deviations as statistical tools for analyzing and interpreting the findings. The study was conducted on one hundred (100) selected parents of elementary school children officially enrolled in Sultan Conding Elementary School for the school year 2021-2022. Choosing Sultan Conding Elementary School aligns with the study's aim to understand the specific problems parents encountered during the pandemic, providing insights into their coping strategies, access to educational resources, and support systems. Purposive sampling was the most suitable choice for the selection of the participants, specifically, in times of COVID, whereby people are more under the global trauma of internalized fear and anxiety. The primary data for this research were collected using a self-constructed survey questionnaire, with proper adherence to the COVID-19 protocol during the release of modules to obtain the maximum number of respondents. Moreover, official documents needed in this study were also collected. Findings revealed that the majority of respondents were aged 36-50, mostly female, and had bachelor's degrees. Parents expressed concerns about disrupted routines and limited access to school activities, friends, and teachers, impacting children's discipline, motivation, and health. Transitioning to modular learning proved challenging, as parents struggled to provide resources and maintain engagement, especially in subjects such as physical education and laboratories. Parents noted a decline in children's social and emotional development due to limited peer interaction and access to community spaces. They emphasized the role of schools in fostering peer learning and social skills. Recommendations include implementing effective home learning strategies aligned with the curriculum, supporting teachers' professional development, and fostering collaboration with families to design a hybrid education model suited to diverse needs. While no significant relationship was found between socio-demographic profiles and the pandemic's impact on learning, tailored interventions are essential to address parental concerns and support children's academic and socio-emotional development. In conclusion, innovative educational approaches and collaborative efforts are urgently needed to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic and ensure quality education for elementary students.
